Get to know the team behind Clio at OutGeekWomen x Vancouver!
Vancouver has always held a special place in our hearts. The city’s tech scene thrives on a strong network of innovative companies and a collaborative spirit that fuels creativity and progress. With its ability to attract top talent and connect to a broad ecosystem of industry leaders, Vancouver is the perfect place for tech companies to flourish. Our team has hosted over 40 events for women in tech right here in Vancouver, and this November, we’re excited to team up with Clio — one of the standout features of the Vancouver tech scene. They opened their flagship office here back in 2011!
Thank you, Clio, for hosting OutGeekWomen x Vancouver! As a BC-based anchor company and global leader in legal technology, what inspired you to host women in tech events?
At Clio, we’re proud to have many engaged community drivers who are women and non-binary engineers. OutGeekWomen was highlighted as an essential event for us to support and to open our HQ doors to the community. This initiative strengthens both our community connections and enriches the experience for our team. We’re excited to expand similar events to all our offices across Canada — and maybe even in Dublin!
Speaking of your offices, how does your Burnaby HQ compare to your other locations, like Toronto, Calgary, or Dublin?
Whether in Burnaby, Calgary, Toronto, or Dublin, our goal is to create spaces where Clions can do their best work. While we have larger offices in Burnaby and Toronto, we operate with an ethos of equity in spaces and offerings globally, each with its own local flair. Our Toronto office has the privilege of having the iconic view of the CN Tower and Lake Ontario, while our Calgary office is situated in the heart of downtown, a location that has quickly become the city’s headquarters for tech innovators.
If you could sum up the atmosphere at your HQ in three words, what would they be?
Collaboration, Community, Growth
What sets working at Clio apart from other companies in Vancouver’s tech scene, and what makes it such a rewarding experience?
Clio is one of Canada’s top tech companies and a global leader in legal technology. In a historic Series F funding round, we raised $900 million USD on a $3 billion valuation, fueling our mission-driven growth. Clio’s culture is unique — a foundation of human and high performance, two principles that drive and support each other to power our long-term vision. Working here means knowing that each day you’re contributing to a mission that has extraordinary societal impact: transforming the legal experience for all and expanding access to justice. That’s a rare and rewarding experience.
How does Clio support and contribute to women in the tech community in Vancouver metro and across Canada?
YWCA Women of Distinction Award: Clio is a long-standing sponsor of these awards hosted in BC. Each year, we sponsor a specific category related to technology leadership. In 2024, we supported leadership in Entrepreneurship and Innovation for women who excel in this space. With this support we aim to champion women as leaders in tech, creating immediate benefits for the local tech community.
Women in Tech Regatta: This is a gathering to connect wo(men) in tech to mentors, peers & resources. By sponsoring this event we provided speakers and tickets to employees who wanted to connect and network with other women in tech.
