Yes, if we focus on the right problems to solve. As you and I both know, we just need to look beyond our industry bubble.
I recommend reading Doughnut Economics if you haven’t already. It lays out an economic model that we should all be advocating.
I’ve been trying to incorporate it into my strategy work. I think any organisation that’s serious about creating a better world needs to ensure four fundamentals are considered:
- Everyone has access to the resources they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life
- We lead a lifestyle that is good for us and the world around us, both now and over time
- We live in cities that are designed for us, can sustain us and the world around us
- We have a government that’s effective at maintaining the systems that meet these needs
Obviously none of these criteria are currently being met at a global level, but it’s essential they are if we really want to improve the situation we’re in.
