On the last day of the Democratic National Convention this week, Our Wisconsin Revolution led a March on the DNC. Why are we marching on Democrats when the fascist specter of Trump is hanging over all of our heads?

It’s *because* of Trump we march on the DNC. We march to tell the Democrats that they must be more than “not Trump.”

We march to tell the Democrats they must be an actual opposition party. They must stand not just for removing the cancer that is Trump, but also for healing the nation whose brokenness led to Trump being elected in the first place.

We must start taking care of our people and our planet. We must provide single-payer Medicare for All so that no one else dies from lack of health care or goes bankrupt trying to access health care.

We must address a broken criminal justice system that inflicts a police state on our black and brown citizens while preventing them from obtaining the well-being that many white people take for granted.

We must abolish ICE, the gestapo of a fascist president, but created by a neoconservative and used by a neoliberal to deport millions — now ripping families apart for no reason other than to be cruel.

We must cancel the $1.5 trillion in student loan debt that hangs over the heads of our young people, preventing them from getting married and buying a house, and we must provide tuition-free college so they can get an education without lifetime debt.

We must provide a living wage to ALL Americans. No one should work 40 hours a week and still be in poverty. Millionaires, billionaires and corporations must pay their fair share of taxes.

We must enact a Green New Deal to create millions of good-paying jobs in a clean energy economy, while cleaning up our air, water, and toxic waste, lowering our carbon emissions, and stabilizing the climate crisis.

If Democrats do not enact this progressive agenda, if we do not solve the problems that plague our people and our planet, fascism will be the result. It already has been.

We will not stand idly by and let this take place. No more will we allow corporations to own our political system at the expense of people and planet. It’s time to say NO an oligarchy, corporate-ruled political system. And so we march.
