They are good men who sometimes have to do anti-moral things in order to survive.Heroine~ 4/5 Strong-minded and feisty However, it is slightly puzzling to me that3 years after women’s rights were taken away, Mariposa still seems quite naive — especially for someone who has been traveling as an unprotected, single woman. No weapons on her?And her internal thoughts, in the beginning, border on being “high school-ish” when dealing with the men.But once Mari becomes more acquainted with the men, it’s like the author hit her stride and Mari’s character becomes the intelligent and strong-willed person she should have been from the beginning.Emotion felt by reader ~ 5/5Dark themes (non-con, abuse, torture) No. The heroes in this book are firmly against non-con. There is a scene where there is miscommunication and misunderstandings, but it’s handled really well and it’ll make sense how this scene occured. Review: I was actually drawn to the series after reading an ad and the blurb for one of the following books in the series. After reading the reviews and descriptions of the following books, I was looking forward to the series. I have to say this first book is sort of underwhelming in some areas, and if I weren’t already looking forward to other books in the series I don’t know that I would continue.The series is set in a future dystopian society, where the United States has fallen into a lawless sort of handmaid‘s tale wild Wild West society. Women have no rights, territories are constantly coming under new rule and boundaries are changing constantly. The main female character graduates nursing school as everything is falling, and discovered that she cannot get a license because she is female. Somehow she manages to traverse the country for three years, providing medical services in exchange for food and shelter. Just after arriving at an outpost, the steel demons MC arrives as well. She winds up being taken by the president to become their MC medic.Overall the story is intriguing and enjoyable. My issue lies with the main female character. I find it hard to believe that she has managed to traverse the country solo, yet seems so naive and weak. She has zero fighting skills, and seems so shocked by the idea that the MC members have killed people. In a country where people are killing people constantly, and every day is a fight to stay alive, I can’t imagine being shocked that someone has killed a person before. Obviously if they managed to stay alive and successful, they’ve had to fight for it. Somehow she managed to apparently just avoid running across anybody for years, yet seems to have collected medical supplies like medications and medical equipment? I find it hard to believe that it was that easy to come across those things, or her services would not be so useful. Katniss Everdeen and June in Handmaid’s Tale managed to survive because they were both tough as hell and adapted to what they needed to survive. Somehow she hasn’t, so it’s strange that she’s survived this long alone.More than once, she goes off on how she’s a medic and has taken an oath to heal people. States she’s a healer. During a fight scene, a prospect is beaten by another member. And she runs out to where he is because he has a split lip and states “ I am a healer. I have to help people!” I am a nurse myself, I help people daily. But I’m certainly not putting myself in danger because I have a compulsion to heal people beyond what seems sane. Also the prospect had a split lip, it’s not like his intestines were hanging out and she had to run to save him. It’s a weird dynamic, and distracting. I also think it makes her appear weak, as if she has no sense of self-preservation, which again seems weird that she’s managed to stay alive this long.Overall I enjoyed the story, and I’m looking forward to the remaining books in the series. I only hope she toughens up and doesn’t stay this weird meek naive mix that she did in the first book.

Review: I always love Crystal Ash’s book. Lawless didn’t disappoint me one bit!Set in a time where the world we know it collapse, no such thing as women’s rights and only the strong survives and takes what they want.Mariposa just graduated from medical school to be a nurse, but with the world the way it is, to be a nurse… there’s no such thing. Traveling west Mariposa seeks to find a place where she can be a medic. By a chance meeting, she meets four very hot, sexy and dangerous men. Meet Reaper, Gunner, Jandro and Shadow… the Steel Demons MC. And boy are they hot!I was taken from the very first chapter. Mariposa is a strong woman, who seeks to find her place in a world that suppresses women. The men of the Steel Demons….they’re hot, dangerous and everyone avoids them if they’re smart. A definite must read. I love the interaction between them all and dang, I would love to take them all home with me! Even Hades and Horus. I can’t wait to read the next book!!

Review: I started Lawless late at night, thinking that I’d be able to read a few chapters before I fell asleep. Ha! I could not put my Kindle down and at one point my husband woke up enough to ask if I was going to sleep at all to which I responded, “I’m almost done, just a little bit left…” I finished in the early morning hours and I regret nothing because I think this may be my favorite of Ms. Ash’s books!Mariposa is a strong FMC but she’s living in a society that no longer values women so she’s also vulnerable and cautious. I really liked that her skills lie in a practical area (medical training) and that she follows a moral code even if others don’t necessarily.The guys each stand out and I’m dying to know more about them as the series progresses. This is a multiple POV book and it’s always fun to see inside the guys’ heads and what’s going on. Here, it definitely helps because post-Collapse, it’s not realistic that the guys would immediately open up and spill their life stories/feelings.As usual for Ms. Ash’s books — there’s a wonderful balance of action, drama, and steam. I’m so excited to dive more into this series and see what happens in the next book!
