Review: Plot: Eva Perino is convinced that she is happy being single; she doesn’t need a man to make her happy. Then one night, her ex-boyfriend (with whom she has remained “friends”) calls, and tells her that he is getting married. He hadn’t mentioned that he was seeing anyone, and her world is turned upside down.
Realizing that she isn’t happy not being part of a couple, and in fact, wanting her ex back, she starts dating again to make him jealous, with varying results.
I wasn’t actually expecting that much from this book, since it isn’t very expensive. I was blown away with how sharp the writing was, how clearly all the characters are drawn and the story itself. It’s nothing new or ground breaking, but it is very well written.
This is about the self exploration that people must go through when they have the wool pulled away from their eyes and realize that they actually want something they didn’t think they did. Eva’s journey has a few wrong turns, which makes it all that much more realistic, as hardly anyone gets it right all the time.
As soon as I was done reading this book, I bought the others available by these authors. I would recommend it for someone looking for something like Bridget Jones’s Diary or A Total Waste of Makeup; something with oomph behind it, and a satisfactory ending.

Review: This was a textbook rom-com. The way Eva waffled between loving being single and wanting to find companionship was very relatable. I enjoyed the bond of her friend group. I love how they formed their own version of a family. I wasn’t crazy about the close proximity of all of Eva’s love interests. Dating or considering dating multiple men that all frequented her coffee shop was a little cringy for me. I liked how the story touched on the pitfalls of remaining friends with an ex. That felt very realistic even if her ex was incredibly selfish and tone deaf. I didn’t love Eva’s decisions in her romantic life. Her whimsical approach to the other areas of her life made for a fun read.

Review: I fell in love with Elisa Lorello’s writing talents in her novel Faking It and ever since I wait with bated breath for anything new she writes. This book, her newest writing efforts certainly did not dissapoint. It was funny as all heck, believeable and graspable wonderously developed characters, poingant storyline, WOW! Please Ms. Lorello, please continue to gift us with your amazing talent. I literally can not wait for your next book. I will read anything you write, and I mean anything and everything. I am forever your fan. Please consider writing a follow-up story to Eva’s & Kenny’s story. I fell deeply in love with them and would love to continue that romance for a while longer. For any reader wanting to both laugh out loud where tears are streaming down your face and you find yourself continuing to laugh at random moments whenever you remember lines from this amazing book and then in other parts find your heart breaking for someone else’s heartache or understanding with absolute clarity what a character is experincing because it’s so close to your own memories or personal experience; treat yourself to this marvelously heart warming novel. Thank you so much Ms. Lorello more please, more!

Review: WILS is way better than I expected. It’s smartly written chick lit with real-world characters (none of the men are possessive alpha-males and no one is over the top beautiful, for example). Eva (pronounced Ayvah, not Eevah, this is a part of her dating stories) is going through a very early mid-life crisis: Her live-in boyfriend has moved out, she’s changed careers (successfully, but still) and she’s sworn off of coupledom. The dialogue is snappy, the story line flows well and the editor has done a good job in tidying up loose ends and bad grammar — while this was outside of my normal reading preference, it was still a pleasure.

If you’re a fan of sweet but spicy chick lit, this is a great story for you. If you prefer grittier stories, alpha males and plenty of sexiness, this may not be for you. I still recommend you give it a shot if you’re in the mood for a change of pace, though. You may find it’s worth the effort.

BTW, I picked this up as a Kindle deal of the day and it’s the kind of book that is worth the risk of trying something outside of your comfort zone. :)

Review: This was enjoyable chick lit. Like Eva (pronounced AY-va), I’m single. Unlike Eva, I’m not sure that I’m enjoying my singlehood all that much. But maybe, Eva is more like me than she’ll admit to.

This book is about Eva trying to convince herself and her friends, just how great singlehood can be. and in the process of convincing herself and her friends, she learns a lot about herself and exactly what it means to be single. One thing it doesn’t mean is that she’s alone. She dates, she has sex, she has her business, and she has a great group of friends. But is that all there is to singlehood? Is she missing out on something by remaining single — by choice? Or is this just a phase and a phrase single women cling to — while they’re single, but quickly up to replace with a relationship?

I had a good time following Eva on her journey. I didn’t want it to end. She’s got some good friends, and she needs to share them!
