5 Ways To Find Long-Tail Keywords For SEO

Long-tail keywords refer to phrases consisting of 3 to 4 words which are extremely specific to a product a company is trying to sell. Consumers typically use specific long-tail keywords once they decide to buy something, making it easier to find what they’re trying to purchase.

Because these keyword terms are so focused, they are more likely to lead potential customers to related results as compared to general searches. They also help reduce competition from big websites such as Yahoo.com or CNN. For example, by simply entering a generic keyword phrase may lead you to a vast array of results, most of them being from competitor websites. Simple phrase searches will provide results, but won’t be as targeted and will make it harder for potential customers to find your site.

If you want to be found and outrank your competitors, discovering and utilizing the right long-tail keywords is crucial. Here’s how to do it.

How To Find Long-Tail Keywords

  1. Use The ‘Searches Related To..’ Option.

The ‘search related to’ option at the bottom of a Google search result page can prove to be of immense help to your long-tail keyword SEO strategy. Begin by typing out the keyword you wish to use to target a product. Once the search results appear, scroll down the page, and you will see the ‘Search related to your keyword option,’ along with multiple correlated keywords.

For example, we used the keyword phrase, “how to build a website” and here’s what we found.

The keywords you see listed are usually close variations of your chosen keyword and typically have low competition — an excellent opportunity for you. Although most of these search results will be long-tail keywords related to your search, there are instances where that won’t be the case. Be sure to review each term wisely to determine if it makes good SEO sense.

To gather a list of useful long-tail keywords that you may not usually see in Google Keyword Planner, simply search one of the keywords from the ‘search related option..’ and then pick up a keyword from ‘search related option..’ of that keyword. Continue the process until you have what you need.

2. Soovle.com

Soovle.com is a free tool that you can use to extract keywords from search engines and websites, such as Ask.com, Amazon, Bing, YouTube, etc. It’s an incredible tool because it’s simple to use and it displays keywords from places that competitor websites often overlook. All you need to do is type in a brief keyword that would typically give you broad results. Once you’ve entered your keyword, Soovle.com will display suggested results from multiple websites which correlate to the keyword you entered. Plus, it allows you to save all the results in a CVS file.

3. UberSuggest

UberSuggest works exactly like Soovle.com, but the only difference is that it provides far more results. It does so by adding each letter of the alphabet after your seed keyword to generate hundreds of possible keywords. Although it functions much like Google Suggest, UberSuggest is slightly better. Why? Because Google Suggest lists keyword results when you manually add a letter after your keyword. UberSuggest saves you time by typing each letter after your seed keyword for you.

4. Google Correlate

Just as the name suggests, Google Correlate provides a list of words or phrases that are often searched along with your original keyword. If you’re wondering how to find long-tail keywords using this tool, simply type in your keyword and hit the ‘search correlations’ button. Each keyword that populates usually has a number next to it. This number indicates the level of correlation of this word to your original keyword. Ideally, you would want a number closer to 1, since it’s more likely that this keyword is also searched along with your original keyword. You also have a ‘Show More’ button to get even more results.

5. Use Quora

Similar to Yahoo! Answers, Quora is one of the most popular crowd-sourced Q&A websites available online. The responses on Quora are said to be more helpful and trustworthy than those on other Q&A sites, which makes it an excellent source for finding reliable content. But how can it be used to locate long-tail keywords? Once you’ve signed up for an account enter a broad keyword in the search bar. Quora will then display all questions asked by people related to the keyword you entered. It may also rephrase your keyword to help you discover more popular terms you may not have considered.
