I couldn’t agree more…
Though I admit, after finding out about my brother-in-law’s death recently I posted a simple “keep our family in your prayers”. The handful of close friends I had messaged me privately and asked what was wrong, while everyone else just publicly expressed they were praying.
I personally felt like this was acceptable. And for the remainder of the day, I was off of social media.
Sadly, it was on the news before we had time to tell people of importance. As a result one of his friends took it upon himself to post an obituary, with the few details he had been told about what they were planning — without speaking to my husband or his parents. What was supposed to be a simple private funeral, turned out to be a big hoopla full of a bunch of strangers we had to keep introducing ourselves to. Sure, I get these were his friends, but it completely went against what his family wanted.
So yes.. I fully agree. There is a level of hierarchy that needs to be respected during times like this.
