It took me until I joined finances with my husband to realize this. It was definitely a struggle coming from a spend spend spend mindset. But after some getting use to, I can’t imagine life any other way. We’ve cut out unnecessary luxuries or found alternatives — like dropping cable and going to Hulu/Netflix/Amazon video. Way way cheaper with all three still! We don’t eat out as often. Little things here and there. If we don’t have the cash to physically buy something we don’t swipe the card. And because of that we’ve been able to build up our savings again after baby & an unforeseen medical expense & a new car — all within a year or two, on top of setting aside our emergency fund.
