Ecologies of Collective Imagination

Creating and sharing ecological imagination practice

3 months 3 July- 30 Sept

Fortnightly 1.5 hr meetings

Online and IRL Bath and Dublin

What will we do together?

We will invite the huddle to think together about how nature can be a source and a driver of the imagination and sense of possibility for individuals and communities. Together we will focus on the concept of re-imagining learning, inside and outside, researching the space of imagination and possibility, nature and welling for future generations.

We will explore how collective forms of imagination can engage individuals in actions related to environmental awareness and justice, including ways of widening participation by engaging people who may have been excluded from the power of ecological learning and imagination, ultimately building aspiration and responding to change in order to build hope for the future.

Who is it for?

  • Creativity and imagination researchers as well as Possibility Studies scholars with an interest in ecological issues
  • Social scientists focused on issues of sustainability who want to harness the power of the imagination
  • Educators interested in fostering ecological forms of imagination and learning
  • Artists whose practice focuses on environmental awareness and justice

Vlad Glaveanu is Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychology at Dublin City University, Ireland, and Adjunct Professor at the Centre for the Science of Learning and Technology, University of Bergen, Norway. His work explores themes related to creativity, imagination, wonder, collaboration, and culture. Review for Wonder: The Extraordinary Power of an Ordinary Experience

“From curiosity to awe and everything in between, including rainbows, harpies and half-forgotten deities, Glaveanu brings us to the edges of wonder — our unique human capacity that leads us towards the possibility of knowledge. This book is at once a celebration of and an ‘expanded vocabulary’ of wondering as a transformational, compulsively creative act. Utterly wonder-full and inspiring!” Bem Le Hunte, Associate Professor, University of Technology Sydney, Australia

How will I know this huddle is for me?

Anyone with a passion to explore ecological imagination is welcome. We will be exploring questions such as:

  1. What is ecological imagination?
  2. How can nature foster imagination and learning?
  3. How can ecological imagination lead to environmental action?

Do I have to commit to 3 months?

It would be great to have bi-weekly online meetings in July and Sept which we can organise around our schedules, with a visit to Forest of Imagination in July and an in person meeting in September in Bath or Dublin
