At the risk of sounding trite; a pair of jeans should cost what somebody is willing to pay.
I’d never pay $218 for a pair of blue jeans, but if there’s something about them important to somebody to pay that much, more power to them.
I think I’ve paid $40, max. I usually have to mail-order my jeans, because my size (32 x 34) is rarely stocked in retail stores. (I can say that mail-order is less fraught with peril for men, as our pants are helpfully sized using inches (instead of nebulous and poorly-documented single-numbers), and have separate numbers for waist and leg-length.)
