Job of the Day: American Girl Doll Historian
Megan Reynolds

I could totally have seen my Mom applying for this job. She was an amateur historian of some note, and her specialty was civilian life in the US in the mid-to-late 1800’s. She wrote meticulously-researched books on cooking, laundry, tatting (a form of lace-making), shopping (she analyzed the ledgers of several general stores, which kept track of every single thing every customer purchased; you could watch the histories of individual families over time by seeing what they bought when), clothing, fabrics, games, toys, candy… lots of different topics.

And yeah, she was into dolls too.
