DIYing My 1st Book Tour Could Have Been A Disaster. Instead, It Launched My Career.

I have to say, having to do all your own publicity (like paying for your own book tour) is a strong argument for self-publishing. I mean, if you are going to do most of the work (or hire it out yourself) anyway, why not pay Amazon and a couple freelancers (copy-editor, cover designer) a heck of a lot less to do the rest?

Not to mention the reader in me wondering how many wonderful books have been lost forever because the author failed to submit it to publisher #45. Anybody with a pulse and a computer can publish on Amazon, and if nothing else, the book will not have been lost to the ages. (Not to mention, it takes a LOT fewer copies to break even with Amazon only skimming off 30%!)
