I wouldn’t feel too bad about that large H/O deductible. Had you actually filed a claim, they would have denied it anyway, as basement flooding is considered flood damage, and it’s never covered unless you have flood insurance. (And even if you do have flood insurance, it always has a high deductible, to cover only catastrophic damage.)

Unless the water came from actual puddles sloshing in the window, you probably want to get a sump pump installed (or, if you DO have one, figure out why it didn’t work.) A house with a frequently -damp basement can be very difficult to sell.
