I’m staying with my brother in Augusta, GA, and then driving up back roads to some NowhereVille for the actual Eclipse. Unlike night-time celestial events, like comets or meteor showers, literally any point in the “totality band” that isn’t in a forest (of trees or skyscrapers) will be fine. A McDonald’s parking lot, the side of a road, whatever… since the eclipse is happening in early afternoon, all will be ok.

I can say that I am totally staying off all interstates to, and inside, the totality zone; they are going to be a complete zoo. (I can only imagine how many people on the East Coast will try to take I-95 to South Carolina on The Big Day.)
