My response to “Money Doesn’t Buy Happiness” is, and always has been: “Money Doesn’t Buy Happiness, but Happiness Doesn’t Buy Anything”.
Put in a less-pithy fashion, if you pursue “happiness” at the expense of ignoring financial reality, you are likely to be disappointed on both fronts. Happiness is a lot more difficult (though admittedly not impossible) if you have less than a minimum amount of money.
But yes, after you reach a certain point, money is just Points on the Scoreboard. If that makes you happy, so be it, but it’s certainly not going to work for everyone (or even most people.)
