Corporations as we know them don’t necessarily fail to steward public interests - they can, but there is no real guarantee that they will. Especially where digital resources - persistent, remixable, generative digital data - are concerned. Governance might be at resource level (Creative commons licenses, GNU licenses), might be at organizational level (open source, community oversight, trust forms), might be at technological level (blockchain? ID3?)

Yes, public oversight, via government bodies, may be needed (for AI) - but I’m interested in the independent (non commercial, non government) governance mechanisms that can be created for civil society in digital age. To manage digital resources for long term public benefit.
