I have a crazy tax situation where a company paid me by mistake and I paid back the gross but now I need to figure out how to get my state and fed withholdings back. It’s a nightmare. I think I have to file normally this year (turbotax) and next year probably bring my taxes to a human.
The SPY mimics the Vanguard S&P 500 index fund, IWM mimics the Small Cap fund HEDJ is a European index fund. Try searching for Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), which trade like stocks, and offer just about every flavor of options much like mutual funds. Before you buy look at the fees and expenses and you can always look for the Morningstar ratings if you want some outside indication of the rating of the fund.
I saw an ad for actively managed funds that was basically saying, “Don’t just be average, beat the index with us.” Actively managed funds are scams and now that people have caught on they’re desperately trying to prey on people fantasizing about randomly striking it rich. They might as well just encourage you to buy lottery tickets since maybe those will beat the S&P 500, too.
