Day 21 — Medicine Woman

Never miss a Wednesday show…

I’ll start by saying I don’t love the music that Phish puts out. They are clearly talented but their song writing is not my jam. They are however much better than The Disco Biscuits. Those guys are unlistenable.

I’m in double digits for Phish shows. Before going this last time I was talking to a friend about being an outsider in this scene and he asked me if there was any artist that I’d follow the way Phans follow Phish. My immediate answer was no. I love Outkast. Andre 3000 is my top rapper of all time. The playlist I listen to the most is probably the one dedicated to him. I’ve seen Outkast once and that was probably 20 years ago. I missed all their shows during their reunion tour.

I understand that last night I saw some important stuff. It was a notably good show that included songs that hadn’t been played in years and other surprises as well. I knew one song very well. It was a cover. Prince. 1999. Did you know that no show is ever the same for Phish? That’s impressive. They have a catalogue that extensive and they’ve clearly worked on curating show after show. Let’s not forget the light show. Always impressive.

The scene is not for me. I go and I enjoy it because I Love Devin. But I’ve come to really appreciate the scene. They are dedicated fans who while I like to laugh at their lack of moves, really get down. Walking around there is nothing but hugs and animated hellos. Their is a lot of joy. Music is good for the soul and yesterday was a good reminder that it can be the exact medicine you need for what may ail you.
