Along with these factors, other things also need to be taken into consideration like marketing conditions, serving size of the products and most importantly compliance with government regulations. Generally, the food and beverage manufacturing companies outsource the job of product packaging to another company.

Most common kinds of packaging items used for food packaging

There are different kinds of packaging materials used for food packaging. Some of the most common and important ones are as follows:

  • Aluminum: -

Aluminum is among the most popular materials used for packaging various kinds of food products. Best things about aluminum include that it is recyclable in nature, is inexpensive, environment friendly and most importantly easy and low cost on manufacturing. This material can be recycled again and again. Aluminum cans are used extensively for packaging aerated drinks, canned goods, fish, meat, baked beans, sweets, condensed milk and similar items. The designs made on aluminum cans and containers are highly attractive and most of them have a glossy finish.

  • Plastic: -

Plastic is most probably the most versatile of the materials that are used for packaging food items. Custom bags are best used for the purpose. Some items that are commonly stored and packed in custom bags include snack foods, frozen goods, bread, cheese, condiments, cooking oil etc. Plastic bottles are used extensively for packing aerated drinks, sherbets, squashes, fruit juices etc. Whether you want to store frozen or fresh meats and fish, plastic trays are the most common and preferred option. Plastic films are used as lining in other packages.

  • Cardboard: -

With more and more companies looking for renewable and environment-friendly packing materials, cardboard has become a preferred choice with many of them. Cardboard tubes, cans, and small tubs are made and items are packed inside the same. However, very heavy and wet items cannot be packed inside these cardboard boxes. Dry and lightweight items are great like nuts, candies, salt, spices, tea, cocoa powder, snack foods, cornflakes etc. Dairy products with little weight can also be packed conveniently in cardboard tubs. After use the cardboard boxes can be crushed and thrown and since they are renewable in nature, they will be recycled or decomposed.

  • Glass containers and jars: -

Glass containers and jars are heavily used in product packaging industry. Though they are quite heavy and have chances of breaking, they are still preferred for storing and keeping specific items like jams, jellies, pickles, beer, sauces, juices, cooking oils etc. It is recommended to keep such things away from reach of children as they might fall and break and cause an accident. Once the item is finished, you can wash the jar and use it for other purposes too.

There are many companies manufacturing different kinds of packaging items for various products, including foods and beverages. It is important to choose the right item from the right company for best results. Environmental friendly products should be preferred.
