Best way to find small genuine influencers
If you’re going to work with influencers in-house and be successful like NA-KD, HelloBody, Glossier and similar brands I wouldn’t go for influencer “marketplaces”.
It is important to know that marketplaces have limited number of influencers. Also it is hard to find small genuine influencers (1k-10k followers with high engagement). And you’re stuck with a platform to communicate with them…you don’t own the relationship with the influencer.
Here are different ways of finding influencers manually on Instagram.
Suggested profiles
- Start with a batch of influencer you think are “spot on”.
- Check their profile and look for suggested influencers (see image).
- Continue using suggested influencers.
Search for hashtags
- Use Instagram’s search by adding a hashtag.
- Search for hashtags that are being used by influencers.
- Search for brands that are known for their influencer marketing (see image).
- Check top posts and look for influencers.
- Then look for suggested influencers (see previous image)
Check influencers’ following
- Start with influencers you think are perfect match with your brand.
- Click on following and scroll for potential influencers.
- Then again look for suggested influencers.
Pros and Cons with Instagram’s search.
Pros:
- No cost, free to use
- “Suggested” feature is often useful
Cons:
- Extremely time consuming 😄
- After a while “suggested” feature stop working…only suggest same influencers
- You often see same influencers over again
- You cannot filter on different parameters (location, follower range, engagement etc)
Faster suggestion
Here is a suggestion to find relevant influencers faster. You’ll save hours…⏱
- Use a search engine to find influencers and filter by location, follower range and engagement.
- See which brands influencers have been seen with to determine whom to work with.
- Assign influencers to team members with tags and add influencers to groups.
- Export contact information as CSV.
