Perhaps resistance is futile but I suppose you can try the opposite tack by taking active measures to expose yourself to the realities that corporatism deliberately hides. You can talk with your children about privilege and the fact that some kids have very little in the way of toys, not all girls look like a Disney Princess and that’s OK, etc. But I know this is hard, because we have to seek these experiences on our own. They are not being pushed at us 24/7, as opposed to advertising.
Also to piggyback on the data mining topic, I noticed that in order to comment here I have to tie my comment to Facebook, Twitter, Google, or an e-mail account — all ways for the company hosting this content to track who I am and potentially mine my data. :-) You are very right, this is our new reality.
