I would recommend a small rice cooker. Essentially it’s a relatively tidy pressure cooker, and you’ll find folks on the web that use them to cook a variety of items, not just grains. (I have two sizes of Zojirushi, my daughter a Sanyo.) It cooks faster than a crock pot but, done right, can be very much “set and forget” to give you more time for work.
