One day I came across an initiative by Women Who Code Delhi, ‘The Mentorship Program’. It is a 5 week program with an agenda for each week. Each selected mentee will be assigned a mentor. Being a sophomore with companies coming next semester for internships, I was really confused on how to prepare and had some doubts in mind. I thought this will be an amazing opportunity to get all my doubts cleared and thus applied for it. On 17 January 2019, I received a mail that I have been selected as a mentee, my mentor was Paavini Nanda ma’am. I was really excited and happy to have her as my mentor. My happiness had no bounds.

We started with week 1 of the Mentorship program by an introductory hangouts call on 22 January 2019. I had 3 other mentees with me. Firstly all of us introduced ourselves, telling about our goals and our expectations from this program, then each one of us asked our doubts and Paavini ma’am cleared them with utmost patience and all my doubts got cleared. It was an amazing experience interacting with her and other mentees.

At the end of the call we were assigned a task to look for opportunities. Here is a list of opportunities I looked for -

1) Rails Girls Summer of Code- Rails Girls Summer of Code is a global fellowship program for women and non-binary coders aimed at bringing more diversity into Open Source. Selected students are paid a monthly stipend, from July to September, to work on a Open Source project. Working in two-person teams, students are supported by a mentor directly involved with the Open Source project, as well as independent coaches with extensive developer experience.
