To become a full-stack web developer, you must learn a wide range of skills. Finding the right learning path and achieving a quick result can be difficult for tyros. At first, visual perception may be overwhelming in understanding what you need to learn and how everything fits together at the end.

This post includes links to great learning resources, as well as a brief description of the relevant topics, so you can get started quickly expanding your skill set.

Full stack development:

It refers to the development of both front end(client side) and back end(server side) portions of web application.

Full stack web Developers: Full stack web developers can create full-fledged web applications and websites. They are responsible for the frontend, backend, database, and debugging of web applications or websites.

Front end:

The front end is the part of a website with which the user interacts directly. The application is also known as the client side. The program provides all the users experience: text colors and styles, photos, diagrams and tables, buttons, colors and a navigation menu.

Front end Languages:

The front-end is built with a combination of technologies such as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), JavaScript, and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

HTML : HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language used to build the structure of a web page. HTML is used to describe the structure of information on a web page. HTML5 is the latest evolution of the standard that defines HTML.

CSS: CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It is a style sheet language which is used to describe the look and formatting of a document written in markup language. CSS4 is the latest version of CSS.

For example, if you want to build a house, you need:

  • Bricks (HTML) to build the structure of your house
  • Paint (CSS) to make your house beautiful

JavaScript: JavaScript is a necessary component for adding dynamic features to your website. The JavaScript programming language is based on the underlying ECMAScript specification. Learning JavaScript from the ground up is a critical step toward launching your web development career. Knowledge of JavaScript is required for many frameworks on the frontend (Angular, React, Vue.js) and backend (Node.js).

TypeScript: TypeScript has grown in popularity as a result of the rise of Angular. If you want to learn Angular, you should definitely start with TypeScript. Because TypeScript is an extension of JavaScript, it is always used in conjunction with it to enable features such as type checking.

Frontend Frameworks:

Frameworks, both for frontend and backend development, make it easier and faster to create common functionality. However, before you begin using a framework, you should always try to gain a thorough understanding of the underlying technology stack (e.g. JavaScript). This will assist you in learning a framework and comprehending the concept.

Angular: Angular is a platform and framework for building single-page client applications using HTML and TypeScript. Angular is written in TypeScript. It implements core and optional functionality as a set of TypeScript libraries that you import into your applications.

React: React is a JavaScript library for building user interfaces. React makes it painless to create interactive UIs. Design simple views for each state in your application, and React will efficiently update and render just the right components when your data changes. It is an open-source, component-based front end library responsible only for the view layer of the application. It is maintained by Facebook.

Vue: Vue is very easy to learn and especially for smaller-sized projects a perfect choice. The learning curve is extremely steep and you can expect to quickly see great results. More and more companies are adding Vue.js to their stacks and the demand for Vue.js developers is growing constantly.

Bootstrap: Bootstrap is a free and open-source tool collection for creating responsive websites and web applications. It is the most popular HTML, CSS, and JavaScript framework for developing responsive, mobile-first web sites.

Some other libraries and frameworks are like SASS, Semantic-UI, Ember.js, Materialize, Backbone.js, Express.js etc.

Back end:

Back end development refers to the server side of an application and everything that communicates between the database and the browser. It primary focus on how the website works.

Back end Languages:

The following libraries and languages are used to build the back end:

Python: Python is one of the most popular programming languages among businesses in 2020. If you haven’t yet added Python to your programming toolbox, now is the time to start. If you’re interested in learning Python for web development, you should look into Python web programming frameworks like Django or Flask.

Java Script: Java script can be used as both (front end and back end) programming languages. Learning JavaScript from the ground up is a critical step toward launching your web development career. Knowledge of JavaScript is required for many frameworks on the frontend (Angular, React, Vue.js) and backend (Node.js).

PHP: PHP is an acronym for “PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor”. PHP is a server-side scripting language designed specifically for web development. Since, PHP code executed on server side so it is called server side scripting language. It is a widely-used, open source scripting language.

The other back end program/scripting languages are: Java, C#, Ruby, REST, GO etc.

Back end Frameworks:

Some of the back end frameworks are stated below:

Laravel: Laravel is one of the most popular PHP frameworks, and it’s easy to see why. It provides a simple, readable syntax for PHP programmers and keeps development teams on the same page with database agnostic migrations. Its official integrated development environment (IDE), Homestead, doesn’t require you to install a web server on your local machine.

Django: Django is completely written in Python. If you like the elegance of the Python programming language you’ll like the Django. Django is a powerful framework and serves you for a wide range of use cases. However, if you have gained a profound understanding of Python, Django is easy to learn and you’ll discover the pragmatic approach very quickly.

Node.js: Node.js enables you to execute JavaScript code at the backend and is extremely powerful especially if Node.js is used together with the Express middleware. It is cross-platform runtime environment for executing JavaScript code outside a browser. You need to remember that NodeJS is not a framework and it’s not a programming language.

The other back end frameworks are: Spring, Ruby on Rails, etc.

Databases:

The popular database is MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Oracle, SQLServer and so on. As a document-type database, MongoDB, is being used more widely in Internet products.

MongoDB: MongoDB is a free and open-source document-oriented database that is very much popular among web developers. This NoSQL database uses JSON-like documents with optional schemas for storage & retrieval of data and comes up with much-needed scalability and flexibility. MongoDB provides you with numerous prominent features.

MySQL: MySQL is another open-source relational database management system that is widely used for web-based applications. It is a fast and high-performance database that provides better scalability, usability, and reliability.
