Great post — respect for diversity includes a wish to understand why someone has a strange or alienating viewpoint. With this respect and the ability to embrace disagreement as a necessary means of exploring a much wider range of ideas, we can accomplish so much more together.
On a small note I would like to advocate for the use of the terms “maternal aunt/uncle” and “paternal aunt/uncle”, because this term makes the important distinction of close genetic distance or not. In my language, Danish, we have totally different words for f.ex. an “aunt” and a “maternal aunt”.
