Yes, the author is privileged. It’s not even just white privilege we’re talking about here, either — this is decidedly Upper Middle Class White Privilege, which is a thing unto itself.

But, the story isn’t really about that. The story is about someone slowly rebuilding their life after a string of bad decisions. Yes, rebuilding that life has been made easier for the author because of privilege, but still, it sounds like it’s been a long road.
