Request for Startup: TLDR App / Platform

TLDR: Too long, didn’t read

Here’s the TLDR:

The world needs a high profile TLDR app / platform.

More:

We’ve all been there, you see an enticing post but it’s mountains upon mountains of text. Then you skip the article. You might put it in your “Pocket” but you often times hold off on reading it.

Western verbal communication and culture seems to be, “give me the key information as succinctly as possible.” But the way in which we consume media has not caught up. I think this is a big problem and one that could have an insane impact.

There are other big problems to work on. But I believe this is key because it affects how informed people are on certain topics. If I can click on an article and instantly know the key facts and figures and skip all the fluff I can have much better higher level knowledge of things. That cascading effect can reach many fields and potentially lead to people working on more impactful startups because they’re more aware of problems / ideas.

I see this as an important machine learning / natural language processing problem that could really send ripples. But I believe it would need a high profile team as the app / platform has to have a low failure rate (this has been the downfall for the current “solutions”).

If someone wants a side project it could also be quick to skip the NLP / ML and open source some kind of plugin that pings users to submit a TLDR after reading an article. This could really work well for certain websites where the demographics match users of plugins.
