Dropbox is well-known as it can share files between personal computers over the Internet. In China, majority of people use “Baidu Cloud Engine” which is a similar product.
Baidu Cloud Engine was launched in 2015. The Solgan for this product is: The world is complicated, but Baidu knows you better. Baidu, known in west as “google of China” for its powers in search services and products. It has invested heavily in cloud storage and processing. Since Microsoft has just begun to introduce its Azure cloud service in China and Amazon is not fully entered to the market, cloud industry benefits from minimal competition with the major U.S. providers. In other word, there is a huge profit for the development of indigenous cloud service in China.
Lots of people upload resource in Baidu Cloud and share these with others. For example, It is very hard to watch korean dramas since the government blocks South korean music vedio and TV. Baidu Cloud then became the best place to find those resource and be able to watch them.Also, When you first registered for Baidu Cloud, new users can get 15G free storage space. It also has referral program whereby an existing user who referred a new user could receive 1G free storage.Dropbox is benift by its convenience and simple operating system, so does Baidu Cloud. They have easy page design and ads would never jump out.
Baidu’s competitive challenge comes from Tencent and Nutstore and other cloud companies. Since the profit for Baidu cloud comes from its subscribed users, the royalty of customers is the most important for Baidu.based on ‘AARRR’. model, Baidu should start thinking how to keep users and let unsubscribed users to be subscribed ones. However, lots of users are worried about its safety and security. A safety research which was reported by Forrester, Gartner, IDC pointed out that Baidu Cloud was only obtained grade C, compared to the dropbox(A+). Since users want to save thier files or documents in a safe environment, Baidu should treat it as the majority challenge. In the last one year, several cloud companies stopped its cloud service due to the negative profit. Whether Baidu Cloud should explore other new products or rely on its cloud service, it is difficult to say.
