Infographic: What is Microsurgery?

Dr. Ergun Kocak and Dr. Pankaj Tiwari both completed reconstructive microvascular surgery fellowships at MD Anderson Cancer Center, but what does that mean for patients at Midwest Breast & Aesthetic Surgery?

Their further studies and years-long experience in the specialized field have been of most use in breast reconstruction using DIEP flaps. During this particular surgery, tissue from the lower abdomen is used instead of the usual silicone or saline implant. Attached to the tissue are a number of tiny blood vessels visible to the eye only with the use of a microscope. With their extensive training, Dr. Kocak and Dr. Tiwari are able to separate the said blood vessels from its origin site in the abdomen and reattach them with the same precision to the patient’s chest.
