What is the best time to cancel YouTube Premium?
Given YouTube Premium is a monthly subscription, it will be renewed by the end of the billing cycle. You also get a one-month free trial if you are subscribing using a Credit card or Debit card.
If you are considering canceling the subscription, you can keep an eye on the billing date and make sure that you are deactivating the premium before the end of your monthly subscription cycle.
Even if you cancel the subscription in between your billing cycle, you will be able to take advantage of YouTube Premium till the next billing date.
In case you are only using your Premium subscription for YouTube Music, you can cancel your YouTube Premium subscription and exclusively subscribe to YouTube Music. In this way, you will be able to get Premium Music at a cheaper cost.
Can you get a refund for YouTube Premium cancellation?
YouTube Premium provides a refund to the users only in case the Premium services are not working as expected. For Example, even after purchasing YouTube Premium, if you are still getting ads or you are not able to download Premium videos offline, you are eligible to get a refund for the service.
In such a case, you can raise your concern with the YouTube support team. They will investigate the cause of the issue and will refund your subscription amount in case you are eligible. You will get your refund via the same payment method you used while ordering the subscription.
Steps to Cancel YouTube Premium on Android
- On your Android device, Open YouTube Application
- Navigate to your profile using the Avatar icon present at the Top Right corner
- Click Purchases and Membership option to get a list of active YouTube subscriptions linked to your account
- Tap on the Active member that you no require
- Click on the Deactivate button and then continue to the Cancel option
- YouTube Premium also has a freeze option where you can pause the subscription for as long as six months by tapping the Pause option
- Click Next and select a reason why you are canceling the Premium. Lastly, click on “Yes, Cancel subscription”
Steps to Cancel YouTube Premium on iOS Devices
In iOS Devices like iPads or iPhones, it is pretty simple to manage and cancel your subscriptions, given you get a list of all the active accounts linked to your ID in one place.
- In your iOS device, Open Settings
- Click on your Apple ID, the first option available after launching the app
- Select a subscription to get a list of all the actively subscribed accounts on your device
- Search for YouTube Premium
- Select the cancel subscription option and click confirm
Steps to Cancel YouTube Premium via Web Browser
In case you don’t have a mobile device handy, you can also cancel your YouTube subscription of your account via a desktop browser.
In case you purchase the subscription via Google Play Store, it will redirect you to the Play Store’s Manage Membership page, and you can use the same steps to cancel YouTube Premium.
- Open a Browser on your desktop and sign in with your YouTube ID
- Navigate to the Paid Membership page and click on Manage Membership option
- You will get an option to deactivate the Premium, clicking on which it will ask you to select whether you want to cancel the Premium or Pause for the time being
- In case of cancellation, select a reason for the same and tap finally on Cancel Subscription

Purchasing YouTube Premium has its advantages. Not only you can binge-watch without Ads, but you also get to listen to Premium music or watch Premium videos.
However, if you are schedule is not allowing you to take leverage of Premium, it’s always better to cancel YouTube Premium using Android, iOS, or Websites and repurchase it when time allows.
YouTube Premium along with cancellation, provides an option to pause the subscription and resume it within six months. Personally, my preference is always to pause the billing for some time and resume it if needed.
