1. Khajjiar

Khajjiar is a hill station in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The place is so beautiful that people call it the Mini Switzerland of India. The village is set atop a small plateau near a water fed lake covered with weeds.

You have a few places to visit in Khajjiar like the Khajji Nag Temple, where you can see a beautiful mix of Hindu and Muslim architecture, Khajjiar Ground from where you can see the mesmerizing, colossal Mount Kailash, the Panch Pandav tree symbolizing the five Pandavas and their wife, Draupadi.

2. Gavi

Gavi is one of the top 10 ecotourism spots in Kerala and of late, it has been getting some great reviews. Gavi is now under the project of Kerala Forest Development Corporation and has been attracting many tourists from various countries, especially the Europeans.

The pristine greenery of the forest is what attracts most people here and they go on safaris, trekking and hiking expeditions in order to enjoy the true beauty of the place.

Osian is a desert town in Jodhpur district of Rajastan. This town holds certain impost relics of the past and contains ancient architecture that you would love visiting if you enjoy history. Most of the architectural wonders belong to period between 8th and 12th centuries.

This town has been termed as the oasis of the Thar Desert and Khajuraho of Rajastan.

4. Keibul Lamjao

Keibul Lamjao, in Bishnupur district of Manipur has earned the name as the world’s largest floating lake. It covers an area of 40 km². You can also spot the endangered deer, known as sangai, it is a brow-antlered deer and is found only here.

But it is said that the deer is in fear of losing its home because the floating river cannot handle its own food supply. The lake is covered with phumdis of rotting vegetation. You will also find plenty of birds, does, fawns, even hog deer and wild pigs.

Which are the destinations that come to your mind when you think of skiing and snow? Probably Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir or even Himachal Pradesh, right? But did you know Uttarkhand also houses a skiing spot?

Yes, it is in Auli and the venue hosts the National Championships of Snow Skiing every year. You even have the world’s largest artificial lake here.

6. Unakoti

Unakoti in Tripura has some incredible stone carvings that you must visit. Legend has it that these stone carvings are actually gods and goddesses who were cursed by Lord Shiva. It is said that Lord Shiva made a night halt at this place on his way to Kashi and insisted that everyone be awake before sunrise in order to continue the journey.

The Lord, angered that his companions slept right through sunrise, cursed them all to become stones and continued on his journey alone.

7. Mawlynnong Village

The village, touted as cleanest village in Asia is located along the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The entire village is pure beauty and when you breathe in the fresh air of the village, you will know what you have been missing all these years.

The community works hard to preserve the beauty of the village, and is thus rightly called “God’s own village”. The whole village looks like a surreal and beautiful bride during the rainy season.

8. Cave Paintings at Bhimbetka

If you fancy looking at the some of the oldest paintings of mankind, you would definitely enjoy visiting Bhimbetka in Madhya Pradesh. This spot is located just 40 kilometers from Bhopal. The name, Bhimketa has been named after Bhima, the brave Pandava of the famous epic, Mahabharata.

The rocks in the area are been painted beautifully and most of the paintings are more than 30,000 years old. Paintings from different periods can be seen here — Period 1 (Upper Paleolithic), Period 2 (Mesolithic), Period 3 (Chalcolithic), Period 4 & 5 (Early historic), and Period 6 & 7 (Medieval).

9. The hill of victory

The hill of victory is located in Puthupalli village of Kottayam in Kerala, just 15 kilometers away from the town. Apart from the hill, you have a one of the famous temples in Kerala here, dedicated to Lord Ram and his brother Lakshman. This destination was once a thick forest where sages used to live to practice austerities.

Several demons used to come here to destroy the peace of these sages and it was Lord Ram and his brother who protected them from the demons. This was the reason why the hill was named the “hill of victory”. The temple was built by the illustrated emperor of ancient Kerala, Cheraman Perumal.
