Everybody is a traveler because, at one point of time or the other, they all travel. For some, traveling is a passion, for some, it is a necessity. Interestingly, there are so many different types of travelers around and the kind of travel you choose defines your personality. We have identified 15 different types of travelers, which category do you belong to?

1. The Nature Lover

Some people select destinations that let them enjoy and savor the abundance of nature. Give them a vacation filled with plush resorts, malls and shopping complexes, and they wouldn’t enjoy it one bit. They get their kick by visiting hill stations, beaches, mountainside locations and all the places that would bring them closer to nature.

2. The Photography Crazed Tourist

We have seen people taking selfies and groupies when they are on vacation, but there is a different breed of tourists who travel only to take photos, not of themselves, but of the locations they visit. They are called travel photographers. Some do it for passion, some as a profession. It is a very rewarding endeavor nevertheless because you can visit so many unique places and be a part of their culture.

3. The Crammer (too many activities in a single visit)

You can call this category of travelers, the “bang for the buck” traveler also because they make it a point to visit every entertainment destination, every shopping corner, every museum, theatre, etc. even if they are hard-pressed for time. Their logic is that if they are traveling so far away from home, they must make the best out of it.

4. Just Party

Party lovers look for destinations that let them a party. They chill out the best way they can with drinks, music and dancing at every place they visit. They have no inhibitions, and they hit every club in town. At the end of the day, they are refreshed, happy, and ready to take on the challenges of life.

5. The Nomad

Nomads are people who travel where their mind and heart takes them. They don’t plan any destination in advance, because they like to take it as it comes, surprises and all. They might even extend their vacation if they loved a particular place more, and head home when they feel like it. They hate it when their days are charted and meticulously planned.

6. The Adventure Seeker

When a person has an insatiable thirst for travel and experience, he is called an adventure seeker. They travel to places only when they see adventure in it. Adventure travelers will also lug a backpack on their shoulders, and travel on a budget. They might go to remote locations, either as a group or individually, but they make sure the places they select have lots of adventure.

7. Culture Enthusiast

Culture enthusiasts make it a point to visit culturally significant destinations. Instead of traveling from north to south to see all the popular destinations, they prefer to stay in one place, talk to the locals, enjoy the traditional festivals, visit the historical places and then go back.

8. The Religious Tourist

The religious enthusiast would visit all the destinations that are distinguishingly important to a particular religion, and make the best out of that.

9. Shopping Madness

Shopping becomes the primary focus of travel for these tourists. They hunt for authentic and unique shopping destinations and visit only those places. Mind you, they get the best prices for what they shop because they are almost pros at it.

10. The Backpacker

Slugging a backpack on your shoulders and trudging up the hills, trekking through the forests to get a glimpse of that rare species of animal might just appall you. But not for backpackers. They are ready to walk any length, just to enjoy that sort of a vacation. They stay cheap, spend wisely, and pack intelligently, but they are never short on the spirit.

11. The Group Traveler

Some people like to travel in groups because they don’t like the hassle of planning the trip, visiting random destinations, and deciding the best time to visit them. They just like to be part of a group, and tag along. They are punctual, and get irritated at people who aren’t.

12. The Solitary Reaper

Some people enjoy their vacations best when they travel solo. They prefer to go to a new destination alone and explore it completely. That way they don’t have to wait for anybody or hear anybody’s complaints.

13. Constant Complainer

Have you seen people who never seem to be satisfied, even when they are on a vacation, and certain adjustments have to be made? They keep complaining all the time, finding fault with everything, including the destination they are visiting. These are really hard to please people.

14. Gastronomy Tourist

It is quite natural that you would like to explore the culinary delights of a place when you visit it. The gastronomy tourist would choose destinations that are particularly famous for a particular type of cuisine and enjoy that to their heart’s content. All other interests come second.

Gastronomy tourism is popular as food tourism and has really caught on with the advent of television shows and social media.

15. The Weekend Vacationer

Going away somewhere during the weekend can really recharge your batteries. Traveling to nearby destinations to make a weekend getaway is a passion for many people. They look for 3-day weekends so they can travel farther and visit more places.

Conclusion

So what kind of traveler are you? Do you travel for fun, to explore a culture and destination, or to just chill out? Next time you see tourists, have fun trying to figure out what category they belong to.
