Vinyl records sales are booming constantly in the last ten years: more than fourteen million records were sold only in 2017 according to a Billboard and Nielsen Music report. “That the resurgence of vinyl records has coincided with the rise of music-streaming services is more than just a nostalgic curiosity” writes Andrew Flanagan in the Vulture. “It’s a strange time not only to consume media, but to be alive. Perhaps listeners unconsciously decided that they really needed to touch something, and that something was polyvinyl chloride” he adds. Consequently sales of turntables are also growing, pushed by subscription services such as Vinyl Me, Please: “We were all passionate about this idea that vinyl, as a format, drives a certain type of listening that’s different from digital,” says Cameron Schaefer to Past Magazine, a co-founder of Vinyl Me, Please. In 2016 vinyl record sales were at a twenty eight year record high according to Fortune, fueled by that unique sound quality and a nostalgia wave. “Why Vinyl’s Boom Is Over” a discussion on Reddit about an article published on the Wall Street Journal in July 2017.
