Son Of God
No one else in any known religious tradition whose earthly existence is an established historical fact is claiming to be the son of God, there is no record.
If there were multiple personalities, we might wonder if God had only one son or more, or if all except one is making a false claim.
But there is only one claimant: Jesus.
The Buddha said he was enlightened, a state of mind anyone can hope to achieve, that he was a human being, a teacher. Buddhism is a science of the mind, and readily accepts all science. It actively asks science to refute anything it teaches.
Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as the title suggests, and as he claimed, honestly, was a prophet. He never claimed to have seen or met God. He was forthright about it. Since God is beyond space and time, God could not possibly have form, he concluded. It is true God is beyond space and time.
There is but one God, says Judaism. There is but one God, says Sikhism. Both have ended up with specific cultures. Just like rivers will erode mountains, it is but natural that a cohesive group of people will end up with a specific culture. That is inbuilt.
But cultural diversity is not a conversation about God. It is a conversation about diversity.
Over the ages people out of divine inspiration have written stories, be it in Europe or India, and they all add to humanity’s collective heritage. They are to be preserved and treasured. More such stories are to be written. Some of the best ones have been collective works of groups over several lifetimes.
Then there have been attempts to come up with spiritual concepts and truths. Physicists try to figure out the physicality of the universe. They employ concepts. It is allowed. Spiritual seekers have faced the impossible task of not only trying to figure out God, who is not of this universe, but also conveying the message to the masses. It has always been a tall task. And they have employed concepts, and stories.
But there has been only one who has claimed to be the Son Of God. A son of God is not a title you earn. It is not like The Buddha’s enlightenment. The son of God is born that way. But Jesus was both man and God. He felt pain on the cross.
God, out of immense love for you, gave you Jesus. He saw you reach out to Him and fail and get confused in the multitudes.
If you believe in God, Jesus is not hard to understand. If you don’t believe in God, you have much bigger problems than trying to figure out which particular religious tradition gets it right.
If you believe in God as the Creator of all things in Heaven and on earth, you will not struggle with the idea that he planted a son on earth, out of love for humanity. You will not struggle with the miracles Jesus is supposed to have performed. For with God all things are possible. He created the laws of physics, for example. He created your mental faculties. Every moment of every day you are seeing miracles, for The Creation is the miracle.
Much of the resistance to Jesus seems to come from those who ascribe him to this or that cultural tradition, or a particular organized religion. He is independent of culture, he is independent even of religion.
Jesus lived. That is an established historic fact. People who saw him, met him, like his disciples, have all left written evidence. There are body remains of his disciples to this day.
God gave you Jesus to make it easy for you to come to terms with The Truth. Because God is loving, God is kind. And He wants you in Heaven, for death is not the end of you, that word has not even been properly coined, it was perhaps coined before humanity figured out you don’t end at “death.” Heaven is indescribably amazing. Don’t miss out.
