First Indian Village: “Mana Village”
Mana The first village of India, Uttarakhand and Chitkul, Himachal Pradesh are the two places, where people confused which one is India’s first village. Chitkul, Himachal Pradesh is actually the first inhabited village on the Indo-Tibet border and lies deep within the Kinnaur valley. But the official ‘India’s first village’, goes to Mana Village, Uttarakhand.
Mana village is located @Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Its altitude 3200 meters approx. And Surely it is the first village & its 24kms away from the border of India and China. And 4kms from Hindu pilgrimage, Badrinath.
Visiting Mana village is in itself a very awesome and satisfying experience. This term, “India’s first village” overcomes both your mind as well as your heart, and giving that adventurous spark in you, with a sense of accomplishment too. The moment you step foot on its ground, the vividness of nature as it is surrounded by the Himalayas and is on the banks of the river Saraswati grasps your attention.
Here, everywhere you would find “India’s first village” being used in some of the other ways, either by shopkeepers or by people selling petty stuff, which would keep on reminding you that you’ve come a long way.
Apart from the river Saraswati, there is one point of interest where you’d find a lot of tourists, known as Bheema Pul. It is believed to be created by Bheema(one of the five brothers of Pandavas), near River Saraswati. It’s a huge rock formed as a bridge across the river. The legend has it that Bheema placed the rock to make way for Draupadi, to cross the river, during their journey to heaven.
