Simply telling yourself “I can do this” may help. 32 different studies of self talk in sports indicates that when we use specific words while talking to ourselves it increases our overall performance.
Imagine you have run several kilometer for a marathon and you are very tired. You are thinking to quit; positive self-talk can give you the edge you need to finish the marathon. In sports psychology, it can help athletes reduce their performance anxiety and help them to enhance their overall performance.
The whole point is our actions are inspired by our thoughts. By practicing positive self-talk we build inroads into our subconscious mind, opening up the possibility of new mind set of new thoughts.
University of Southern California states that a person has about 70,000 thoughts per day.
Self-talk influences how we feel and behave. Self-talk such as motivational self-talk helps to inspire optimal performance and instructional self-talk helps to make the task easy. Choosing between them is not so black and white; a combination of two provides the best optimal results.
