Fear of Failure
I have read in one of my recent reading, one should fear of Success rather than Failure. It may sound funny but yes, in every failure there is a learning. One changes the course of action and tries to be better the next time.
In this blog I will share my experience about factors that influences the fear of failure and how can we overcome this.
- Losing Trust: When a person fails, the trust on that person is reduced, this causes a pressure and he becomes dependent and don’t makes an effort to try and develops a fear to try and fail.
- Impact on Appraisal: For most of us the great motivation is last day of Month and the appraisal letter at the end of year, we ensure no harm happens to this. So when there is a failure we always get so nervous and these questions will come on top of our mind “What would my Manager think?”, “How this would impact the appraisal?”, etc., etc.,
With these implications what we do is “we don’t try” , “we don’t fail” hence “ we don’t learn” that results in No growth.
One can overcome this, How?
- Individuals: Be open to try and stop worrying about the result, You learn and advance a step to achieve success in what you are trying.
- Team members: Your motivation and support is required, when a team member fails, help him introspect on why he failed and motivate him to try and help him to learn from the failure and achieve success.
3. Leadership: Encourage the team to try and learn and fail, Fail early to be successful.
Before I started to pen down this quick read I had a fear about the result, but not now.
Hope this helps, please share your comments about any other factors you experience we can discuss those and learn together.
Failure is temporary change in direction to set you straight for your success.
