I think most people choose to pull the lever because inaction is, to them, a crime, and their fear of guilt, not love of life, drives them in making such a choice. For if love of life was their motive, how could they put any objective value on one life over five? Lives are not equivalent, and so math is a terrible tool in such a conundrum.
