My journey from Mumbai to Toronto to Tech!
The thing about everyone’s journey is that each one is unique and special in it’s own way. Mine started in Mumbai, India!
In 2017 is when I decided I wanted to move to Canada! It took me 2 years with various hurdles and difficulties but I finally made it thinking this was the biggest battle of my life. It’s after I landed here, that life hit me in the face. For the first 2 years, I was a customer service representative, thinking eventually, some day I will find my niche.
It was during the COVID preliminary lock-down I had the time to finally assess what my goals are! It just so happened, that at the time, the people around me were all in the tech industry and I grew curious. The young girl, who loved gadgets and would get super excited for any new invention or update, came right out.
Every time I would think of picking up a coding language, I would be riddled with questions and confusion. Finally, I settled on SQL and Python. I started doing small courses and making simple projects and it was the most exciting thing to see the final project. Every instance one of my friends would use the app I created, I would be thrilled! I knew at that time that this was the calling for me.
After discovering and learning more languages, front end development seemed the most exhilarating and I contacted Juno. I knew this was going to be a huge step in my professional life and I knew I was ready. The thought of the mass impact coding would have or working with like minded people to develop something that would make someone’s life easier and better, was the best part.
“Being nervous isn’t bad. It just means something important is happening.” -Michael Jordan
Today, after living 3 years in Toronto, I have taken my first step into this industry as I start the 12 week Web Development Bootcamp with Juno. I am more nervous, excited, thrilled and scared than I have ever been. However, most importantly, I am simply happy to be taking this step.
