Monsoon brings joyful rains and refreshing climate. But this season also brings along certain skin problems which can affect our skin. The humidity in the monsoon season can make the skin oily and sweaty. The humidity usually clogs the pores leading to acne and other bacterial infections. One must seek the help of a skin specialist in order to efficiently deal with these skin problems.

However, the skin specialists suggest to take some preventive measures, as they say — nip the evil in the bud. Dr. Ashima Goel a well-known skin specialist in Chandigarh strongly states that every season demands unique skin care regimen. With the changing climates change in the skincare routine and products is necessary to keep the skin healthy and flawlessly beautiful. As the monsoon season is here, following are some of the skin tips which Dr. Ashima Goel suggests to maintain the skin hygiene and keep skin problems at bay.

1. Use sunscreen

During monsoon, usually the sun is behind the clouds and many people think that it cannot harm the skin. The truth is despite the heavy cloud cover, the UV rays can still reach us which can cause wrinkles, fine lines, and pigmentation. The damage caused by the sun and the UV rays is often referred to as photo-damage by dermatologists. One must apply a broad spectrum sunscreen 15 minutes before leaving the house which should be above SPF 30 & PA+++. Also, in every 3–4 hours re-application is required.

2. Cleansing

During the monsoon, the skin feels more oily. So, a lot of people end up washing and cleansing the face too often leading to dry skin. A lot of people also believe that they do not need any moisturiser in the monsoon as the skin is already oily. But, most of us do not know that the excessively dry skin prompts our body to produce more oil. Hence, cleansing the skin with a mild face wash and applying a gel-based moisturiser afterwards is what is prescribed by the skin specialists during this season.

3. Drink a lot of water

The secret to glowing skin is drinking a lot of water irrespective of the season. If the skin is well-hydrated it boosts the skin’s essential oils, flushes the toxins away and leaves the skin fresh.

4. Say No to make-up

The last thing one must wear in the rainy season is make-up. Rains are the best time for bacteria and microbes to cause several serious skin problems. The use of dirty makeup brushes and oil-based makeup products can lead to breakouts. Let your skin breather and go makeup free this monsoon.

5. Use warm water

Using warm water helps in reducing the excess production of oil and cleanse the pores. But make sure it’s only lukewarm and not hot.

After bearing the extensive heat of the sun in summer, monsoon is bliss to bring relief in the life of an individual. Monsoon does bring a lot of infections due to damp and humid weather. As Dr. Ashima says — every season has some pros and cons when it comes to the skin health.

She practices at Parisa skin cosmetic and laser centre which is a well-known skin clinic in Chandigarh. This skin clinic provides all the effective skin, hair and nail treatments for all age groups.

Skin problems are real and intense. One must understand that the season plays a major role in skin health.
