In everyday culture, publicly expressing love for something that isn’t a player or team is frowned upon. For example, students don’t go shouting about Harry Potter or The Hunger Games or Doctor Who in the middle of Dillin, but everybody yells SeeeeeaaaaHAWKS during football season. There is a mixed message being sent: you can acceptably be a fan, you just have to be a fan of the right thing.

With the exception of things like comic conventions this holds so true and that it disappointing that our culture does not allow that. One of the biggest reason for sports fan being more recognizable at Linfield then a harry potter fan is first of all the harry potter club does nothing in dillin and even when they do they only hold 1–3 huge events a year. With sports there are games on the TVs in dillin almost all the time and there is many different linfield football, baseball, softball etc games throughout the year the issue isn’t just that sports is more accepted its just that there are fewer areas to be a fan of fandoms like Harry Potter
