As a straight white male, I for one DO have advantages over the plaintiff, and I’ll never pretend that my relative success is entirely my own. However, one of the fairer grievances w/ the open letter is that the writer never checked HER privilege. There are lot of a Bay Area lifers who’ve been priced out or who are living more modestly than she, who might not have the patience for a young transplant working at a company that has free food available for part of the week. I agree many of the responses come from self-righteous people who have had a structural leg up on her. But doesn’t she fail to acknowledge the shoulders on which she stands?
