I used to get this question a lot in the past and it always put me in awkward situation. You may be wondering why? Well… As a social being (so called) when we meet new people, the most favorite question people ask is…

“What are your hobbies?”.

“I love reading novels, this, that, blah, blah and (at last with a bit fear) I love video games.”

“Cool bro… CS or FIFA?” (my true answer would be above pic!!!)

“Well… neither of them” (they would give you a strange look but if they are fan of video games too, they would ask..)

“Oh.. GTA V or dota 2?”

“Sorry, not my cup of tea.”

“You are talking about video games, right? what on earth do you like?”

“Well, frankly speaking I kind of suck at FPS,TPS, I still need two hand to drive a car, I don’t know how to play FIFA (I really tried), I have never got fast enough internet to play MMO like dota 2 or World Of WarCraft, Strategy Games are boring for me now.”

Now they look even more weirdly at you… “Don’t tell me you play candy crush saga.”

“OMG!!! Just kill me. Why I didn’t die before hearing that. Arcade games are stupid. (mostly)”

“So… I guess you don’t play video games.”

‘Oh… I am crazy about video games.”

“HOW?” (Sometimes they don’t even need words to ask that. There faces are enough)

Now this is my awkward situation. I play different types of games. What I am interested in is story telling and art. It’s not that I haven’t played above games. I have played. I know how much fun it is to play CS with friends. I know how addictive is fifa. I know how cool it is to do stunts in open world of GTA. [ But Candy Crush Saga never made sense. It sucks!!! ] But I don’t play them anymore. Reason is I get bored easily. But bigger reason is I believe video games are not just way to pass your time. But for me It is more about storytelling, art and innovation.

I feel lucky to be in the age where video games are improving like never before. Other than main stream games there are so many unique games that normally we miss. Just to state a few example.

The above cover pic of post is from the game name “Monument Valley”. That game has hardly 2 hour of gameplay. Playing it again don’t make sense. It isn’t free too. But that game is pure ART!!! I bet if you play this game… you would be totally amazed. Game consists of paradoxical 3d model puzzles…Even if you don’t like the description but still you will like the game.

There are games like Limbo… A black and white 2d silent puzzle game. Or beautiful games like Leo’s fortune. There are games with awesome graphics like last of us or portal. I love portal 1,2. Not Just because of the idea of creating a portal but also for the robot characters that feels so human!!!

Last of us is a survival, third person shooter, zombie, post apocalyptic video game but it tells a very touching story about a father who has lost his daughter.

This isn’t just about big titles. There are games that have been made by independent developers. Games like “To The Moon”. That game has worst possible graphics and gameplay. But what makes it awesome is its music and story. That game has made people cried. (Truly)

What’s new in the storytelling is interactive story. A story that will change based on how to play your games. This is simply mind blowing. e.g. all the telltale games of walking dead to game of thrones. In Sherlock Holmes…. Crime and Punishment .. you are sherlock. You literally deduce stuff and then accuse him/her for crime. Now you may deduce wrong or miss vital clues… so you may actually ended with hanging the wrong guy. But game doesn’t stop. It doesn’t say game over. The game will move.on. You are just left with the consequences. There are so many games like this with multiple ending. play station game The heavy rain is defined as interactive drama.

Or there is a game just about the endings. You are suppose to end your game in different ways. “Stanley Parable”

There are games that uses google map of your own neighbourhood as game map. There are games that decides the time for you to play. At the last there are games that have created entire unique universe for us to play. You can spend your time exploring one planet or billions of unique planets. (And we get surprised by map of GTA V) That game is “No Man’s Sky”. It is upcoming game so hasn’t been launched yet. I will talk about this game later. But believe me I haven’t heard nothing as exciting as no man’s sky in my life.

And this list goes on and on…So what am I interested in? What is this blog about?

I appreciate GTA for making open world cool, I appreciate half life and counter strike for making FPS so exciting. I appreciate World Of Warcraft for bringing multiplayer to a new level. I appreciate all these games for what they brings on table. But this blog is about those not so popular games and their unique storytelling that are bringing something far more awesome than just countless hour of fun on the table. (at end of which you feel wasted.)

I don’t care what COD modern warfare 2 brings than black ops… Or what GTA V brings other than GTA IV or what FIFA 2015 brings than FIFA 2012.

So if you enjoy playing countless hours in main stream then probably this blog isn’t for you!!! But if you like stories than this is a place for you.(even though if you don’t like video games.) If you are bored of hardcore gaming and want to play something new then this blog is for you.
