Situated amidst lush greenery, Halebidu was once the capital of the mighty Hoysala Empire, which flourished between the period of 11th and 14th centuries. The city was initially known as Dwarasamudra and was later renamed as Halebidu. The new name came with a dark meaning, though. Halebidu was later referred to as the “ruined city” due to the destruction caused by continuous invasions
