Should Patrick Mahomes Sit Out Until He’s 100 Percent Healthy?
Despite Patrick Mahomes sitting out due to injury, backup quarterback Matt Moore has shown that the Kansas City Chiefs are still a legitimate threat to compete in the AFC.
Chiefs defeated the Minnesota Vikings 26–23 by kicker Harrison Butker hitting the game-winning field goal. As for Moore, he went 25 for 35 for 275 yards and one touchdown. Moore had a lot of help in the running game with Damien Williams having 125 yards on 12 carries and a rushing touchdown.
Since Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos, Moore has stepped in. So far with Moore as the starter, Kansas City is 1–1 and their offense is still formidable. This season, he’s thrown for 659 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Last week in a 31–24 home loss against the Green Bay Packers, Moore threw for 267 yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 103.9.
Before facing the Vikings, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke on how teammates feel about the veteran.
“I don’t know him as well as maybe the other guys, but I liked what I saw. He goes about it the right way,” Reid said, via the Kansas City Star. “The players around him have confidence in him, which winds up being very important.”
If Moore continues his excellent play, it would be foolish for Reid and Kansas City to rush Mahomes to play. Mahomes is the future of Kansas City and they need him to be around for the next 10–12 years.
Chiefs have a Week 10 road game against Tennessee, followed by hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on “Monday Night Football” in Week 11 before their Week 12 bye.
