Should The Bears Draft Jalen Hurts?
The Chicago Bears season has been a huge disappointment. Last year, they had a 12–4 season and won the NFC North title. Everyone in the public thought if Mitchell Trubisky would improve as a passer, Chicago would be a serious contender for a Super Bowl. Sadly, that is not come to fruition.
Currently, Chicago is 3–5. they are coming off frustrating losses against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Trubisky’s play has been painful to watch. Although he is completing 63.3 percent of his passes, he has five touchdowns to three interceptions. Moreover, his QBR is ranked 30th in the NFL.
Two years ago in the 2017 NFL Draft, Chicago traded up for the No. 2 overall pick to select Trubisky. Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson were the two quarterbacks that were picked after Trubisky.
If Chicago decides to move on from Trubisky, how about taking a look at Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Before he enrolled to Oklahoma, Hurts spent three years with the Alabama Crimson Tide. In the SEC championship game, Hurts took over for Tua Tagovailoa and scored 14 unanswered points to knock off Georgia.
So far with the Sooners, he’s having an spectacular season. Hurts has made tremendous improvement with his accuracy and reading defenses. To validate Hurts’ case, who’s the current head coach he is with? The answer is Lincoln Riley.
Riley has helped quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray win the Heisman Trophy and become No. 1 overall picks. Seeing the way Hurts has been playing, he could easily be a first-round pick. Also, when you look present era with individuals like Watson, Mahomes, Murray, and Lamar Jackson, Hurts wouldn’t make a difference compared to them, in terms of skill and ability.
Chicago has an elite defense and a solid head coach. In the end, what they’re missing is a capable quarterback. Unequivocally, they need one, especially from the standpoint that the NFC North has excellent quarterback talent like Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford and Kirk Cousins. Among the quarterbacks , Trubisky would be ranked last in the division.
By surrounding a commodity as Hurts, Soldier Field will be packed. More importantly, fans in the Windy City can finally be proud of a quarterback they have been destined for.
