Why I Want To Go To MLH Prime: Spring Finale 2016

Whenever I’m out with friends at a new place or somewhere we go often, we always take pictures on multiple phones. Some pictures are taken from my phone and some pictures are taken from friends’ phones. At the end of the day, we all want all the pictures to be able to save and keep. However, a lot of people are very slow in sending pictures because they forget or are just very busy.

My solution?

I want to build an app that runs in the background and takes friend’s geolocations and uses them to share pictures with each other. If two friends are in the same area at the same time and they take pictures with each other or of each other, I want them to be able to have access to the pictures. My app would essentially create a shared photo stream between the friends and allow them to see all of the pictures from that area at that time. It would add those pictures to their camera roll, not to the app. Thus, the app does not store any data. It simply runs in the background and allows pictures to be shared with each other.

Isn’t there a privacy concern there?

No, there is not a privacy concern because the only pictures that are shared are pictures from that area at that time when both friends were in the same area. My app would identify that the other person was in the picture before sharing that picture. Thus, one’s personal and private photos would not be shared with this app.

What if there’s a group of 3 people and person A is not friends with person B, but person B is friends with both person A and person C?

Person B would get access to photos from person A and person C. However, person A would only get to view photos from person C.

I want to go to MLH Prime and be able to build this app with a great team.
