While the world fights over feminism and rights of women, we should first accept the fact that most of us have only a hazy picture of the word’s actual meaning. While the semantics of “feminism” tend to polarise people, its definition is very simple: equality between men and women.
Is this really an issue of the gender. Why is it that when a man starts a social movement about female empowerment, he is attacked with words due to his gender instead of listening to his positive ideologies. Well, I believe that women empowerment is not a “man’s or a woman’s issue”. It is an issue of the ideological differences between various sections of societies in various parts of the world. But have we taken it too far? Now, first let us ask ourselves: Is it a sensitive topic? Yes, as a matter of fact, it is. This male chauvinistic society has been rupturing the social fabric of the world in an irreparable manner. Well, wounds can be healed, but ruptured ideologies can’t. They can only be replaced. The society comprises of both the sexes. So, in other words, any kind of these dogmatic principles or facts are not in fact the result of solely the male psyche. The female part of the so called chauvinistic society has an equal role in this persona. Feminism does not empower women, it infantilises them.
Some assertive statements that men are indifferent towards rape and do not consider it as a heinous crime are mind-numbing and perpetuate real sexism and fear towards men.
Some people possess an ideology that women must not learn to protect themselves; it is the society that must change. But, this is not Satyug or Rama- Rajya, where there are no crimes and people live on happily ever after! The idea that women should not be prepared to defend themselves against an attack because they shouldn’t have to be in the situation in the first place is remarkably absurd. Predators will always exist and the fact that we need to imbibe in us is that “evil exists in every nook and corner of the world”, cannot be challenged. We can suppress crime or even decrease its intensity but it cannot be eradicated. This is not a fairy tale with a hero and a victim. Women is such cases should stop acting as victims and become heroes because the only way out of this is motivation and self confidence.
We should understand that in the real world, we should not spend a lot of time being submerged in endless theoretical situations, hoping and waiting for some grand shift in the ideology of the society, which will do almost nothing to alleviate the issue.
Not a product of circumstances but a product of my decisions, I feel that we have come too far in this war about the rights of women on the basis of equality of the two sexes. A place where both the sexes co-exist with equality is a far fetched dream. Feminism is an incredible concept and I am a feminist myself, but i strongly feel that Pseudo- feminism is a big issue that needs to be tackled.
I so hope that there will be a world where both the sexes co-exist and nobody has to fight for their rights. But, till then, all of us should work towards the ultimate goal because each and every day of our handwork is taking us closer to the destination!
