MODEL -AN INVISIBLE ARCHITECTURE: Juniya Ishigami

Junya Ishigami (1974) studied architecture at the tokyo national university of fine arts and music. For him architecture is a boundless field of infinite possibilities that affects every area of life while raising existential questions and requiring both scientific and artistic observation. He has made his name in our part of the world with experimental installations that lie somewhere between furniture, art and architecture.

In my model making I have choosen Junya Ishigami’s technique of ‘A cut out paper puzzle of the interiors of the city/and /or an invisible architecture. The building that I have transformed into an Ishigami Style is ‘UTS BUILDING 10’, I have just taken the envelope of the building. I have used different materials and different paper craft to make the model look like Ishigami’s style. His work fascinates me because he believes in the type of architecture which is invisible, i.e., open, transparent, without boundaries, and which also includes plantation(environment). During my research , its Ishigami’s belief that, “architecture is one of the tools available for opening up words we have not yet discovered” (Ishigami 2014,p.1). And also, he design’s clean exposed structure of the building with limited color schemes. In my models I have tried to show the same techniques used by him, by showing some plants, scale of people, furniture, and open transparent space.
