What makes someone lucky
What does it mean by luck? What are the things that define luck? Is luck controllable? Well, there are so many questions always hover around our heads asking the definition of luck and the way how it can be controlled. Whenever we find ourselves in a deadlock situation where nothing can be done to turn around the situation, we start burdening our luck for that. We start saying this is the destination defined by our fate not by us. Surprisingly enough, this is not the same case when we look into our successes. We forget about our luck, discuss and praise ourselves for our efforts that we put into to anchor our successes. We try to build viaduct between success and hard work, dedication, prudent decision-making tactics. We end up being proud of ourselves for all of our hard work that we put together to transcend and transform our targets into successes. But, the reality it, even if we sometimes overlook the influence of luck, it always peeks in between success and failure.
We define luck by the success or failure of any activity, target or project caused by chance. But, chance only smiles to those people who are always ready to take audacious steps to meet success. If you are not ready to take chance and put yourself outside your comfort zone, then you can forget about the fact that luck would come and say you to take your next step. Luck only twinkles when you are ready to take a little extra risk in your life. Our whole life, starting from birth till the day we survive in this crazy world is full of mystery. We play with our fate. Sometimes we become successful and sometimes don’t. But, playing with our fate is a never-ending process. Few days back, I was scrolling my you tube channel and suddenly one video popped up in front of me which blew my mind away. That was exactly what I was looking for. it was an inspirational speech by Tina Seelig, a professor of Stanford University. In her speech, she talked about the little risk she took to increase her luck. In her speech, she beautifully described how her luck twinkled and she published her first book which has been sold over million copies all around the world. One day, she decided to stretch herself by putting herself out of her comfort zone and she introduced herself to an anonymous guy in a flight instead of listening music by putting headphones on her ears while she was travelling to Ecuador. She figured out the person who was sitting next to her is a publisher. She then kept regular contact with that publisher, invited him into her lectures and opened up an enormous opportunity for not only her but also for her students to get their articles published. Her book was published even though it was rejected at first by the publisher.
While I was watching that video, I was trying to reflect back few of my life events as well. Few big surprises happened to me by putting myself out of my comfort zone as well. Generally, I am an introvert person and I always feel shy to introduce myself to random people. One day, at my university, in 1st semester, I decided to overcome that and introduced myself to a group of students in my class. Guess what happened after that! I have got few of my best friends from there. This is exactly the point that Tina was trying to make in her speech. She exactly pointed out the right spot which can influence luck. The ultimate secret that makes someone lucky is the ability and intention to take little risk and go a little extra mile. She pushed herself out of her comfort zone and introduced herself to an anonymous guy which simply culminated into a huge success.
But, there is an important point to be addressed. When you are putting yourself out of your comfort zone and taking risk, you are opening a box of uncertainty. You don’t know what is going to happen. Here is a good point you always need to remember. When you are taking risk, make sure you are taking calculative risk. Investing all of your money behind a business without anticipating the future of it is not taking risk. It is called madness! I can assure you that, in this regard, luck will definitely strike hard on your face as a lesson. But, if you can take calculative risk and expand your horizon then you would see how luck twinkles often to surprise you. It would not happen always but most of the time you would get the chance to see it. Be ready for bad surprises as well. It is always better if you can establish little control over your situation. You have to understand, when you need to get out of the situation if that does not go right. This often comes with maturity. So, don’t worry and keep taking calculative risk.
Undoubtedly hard work is important for success. But, taking calculative risk, putting outside comfort zone would help you to meet your luck. What if hard work and luck situate together! Here you go! Your dream run starts.
With that good spirit, Good Bye until my next article.
